Face Lift

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the face and neck, such as: sagging facial skin, the lines and wrinkles between the nose and the corner of the mouth (nasolabial), loose and sagged excess skin or fat in the neck, double chin and etc. A facelift reduces wrinkles and sagging skin on the face and neck caused by aging or weight loss. The procedure removes excess skin, tightens the underlying muscles, and reshapes the skin in a higher position. The results go beyond what can be expected from wrinkle-fighting injections, different types of lifts such as cheek lifts or mini lifts addressing specific concerns.

Face and necklift procedures can be performed by many methods. Some of those methods are surgical and some of them are not such as thread lifting, ultherapy, french lift etc… The affect and the results will differ from method to method. Your surgeon should recognise your expectations and should recommend the method that will suit your needs. Sometimes combined with liposuction in the neck, the results are way more than expected. Fat injection to face can also be combined with face lift in order to achieve better results and a more youthful looking.
Don’t forget, everyone has different pain limits. The operation is might be a bit longer than the other esthetis surgeries however thanks to modern medicine, pain management is now very easy and patients are much more comfortable in the post operative period. You might have a compression garment or bandages immediately after the surgery. The discomfort and pain should begin decreasing approximately 48 hours after the surgery. Bruising and swellings are normal.
Most of the Incisions for a facelift usually start above the hairline and extend in a natural line to the front of the ear and continue behind the earlobe to the lower scalp inside the hairline. These are generally hidden behind the hairline or in a natural crease. Once the scars have softened and matured over a period of several months, they are generally not very noticeable to the untrained eye. You might also have a small incision under your chin if work is being done in the neck area.
Your face will be bruised and swollen right after the surgery. Your features may be distorted from the swelling and your facial movements may be slightly stiff as well. Some of the swelling and bruising may persist for 2-3 weeks. Most patients are back at work 10-14 days after surgery; however, you still may have some residual bruising and swelling that may need to be camouflaged with makeup
Normal activities, including work, can usually be resumed within 2 weeks. Any strenuous exercise will need to be postponed for at least 4-6 weeks, and sun exposure will need to be limited for several months.
A facelift usually last 7 to 10 years. Some patients decide to have the procedure repeated down the road, while others do not feel that they need another procedure.
